OTTAWA-Senator Patrick Brazeau is trying to fight back over the senate expense scandal by asking the ethics officer to investigate the committee that ordered him to repay his housing allowances.
In May, the upper chamber passed a motion ordering Senators Brazeau, Harb and Duffy to repay hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses they had been claiming since taking their jobs.
In a letter to the ethics officer, Brazeau’s office points out an independent audit found he met the housing requirements and actually blamed vague senate rules.
It then claims the committee of internal economy changed the rules in secret and applied them retroactively.
Mac Harb has already launched legal action while Brazeau is considering doing the same.
